A JOURNEY INSPIRED BY WOMEN IN SCIENCE

A LOVE FOR SCIENCE AND A PASSION FOR STEM DISCIPLINES ARE THE COMMON THREADS THAT BIND THE STORIES OF THESE EXTRAORDINARY WOMEN TOGETHER.

We can perceive a unique story and a genuine passion in each face and glance. Elisabetta directs her female gaze towards the scientific world, presenting it to us, filtered through her personal history, identity, and sensitivity. She photographs women’s faces and, by her gaze and the camera lens, she tries to explore and capture the individuality of each woman: an expression, a vulnerability, a strength, an inner feeling. What she sees is a projection of what she finds within herself, a trace of her own history and experiences, echoed in the faces of the women she portrays. Each face conveys the passion for the wonderful world of scientific discovery, the same passion that animates Elisabetta, in her dual roles as a molecular biologist and photographer. She immortalizes a glance, protecting it from oblivion and returning it as a legacy to the new generations, so that young women can draw inspiration for their own lives and professional paths.

EVERY SINGLE PHOTO ASSERTS A NEW VISION OF THE WORLD, A NEW PARADIGM IN WHICH SCIENTIFIC EXCELLENCE IS SHARED BY WOMEN AND MEN ALIKE.

The portrait exhibition is supported by the sound design of Andrea Pozzoli. The sounds, along with the voices of the scientists’ speaking in the languages of their diverse countries of origin blend to create emotional engagement and inspire future generations to become innovators and agents of change.

“When approaching the sound design for STEM Passion, I instinctively felt I had to give Elisabetta Citterio’s portraits a voice, thereby enhancing and expanding the ‘photographic gesture.’ I thought it would be emblematic to ask these scientists to ‘declare their passion’ for science through a short voice message in their native languages. As soon as I received these messages, I decided to integrate them into STEM passion’s sound design as part of the installation. The architecture of the exhibition spaces, theirs minimalism and visual cleanness inspired and guided me in composing and creating clean and minimal soundscapes. I made room for the voices of these women and their passion for science, highlighting these ‘sonic snapshots’, as fragments of a world that needs and deserves to be fully unveiled”.
